Brian Leavitt Named as Principal at MMHS
Mr. Brian Leavitt has been hired as the new principal effective July 1, 2011. Mr. Leavitt has served at MMHS as the Entrepreneurship Instructor and teacher of Environmental Science, Biology, and Explorations in Science for the past seven years. Under his leadership as the DECA Advisor, his students have excelled in Maine state competitions and qualified every year for international competitions. He has actively been involved in the school serving on committees such as the Leadership Team, NHS Advisory Board, Literacy Team, and Technology Team. He also served as the NEASC Co-Chairperson during the recent accreditation process.
Mr. Leavitt states, “I’m excited to start the process of making MMHS the best possible school for our students, parents, teachers, and community. I believe the educational experience should be rigorous and connect to students’ lives. This will be possible when everyone in the school building and community pulls together, in one direction, towards a shared set of goals and values.”
He holds a BS degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Aquaculture from Unity College of Maine and just completed an MS degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine at Orono. He was employed as the Aquaculture Instructor at Lubec Consolidated School for four years before coming to MMHS. He also worked at Atlantic Salmon of Maine as an administrator and fish technician.
Mr. Leavitt looks forward to working with the Alumni Association. He welcomes and encourages alumni input and suggestions on how to improve the educational process for the students.
